Paint it black or white?

Ever since I saw this table, I've been thinking... Do I really want to paint our meals table white? Or should we paint it black instead? Don't get me wrong, I still love my whites, and think it would be a lot easier to keep clean and dust free ... but this black table just looks so damn sexy!

What do you think? Would you recommend we paint it black or stick with white?

The table to be painted ...

Our open living so far. The rectangular dining table will be replaced, and so will the black leather lounge. So we are pretty much starting from scratch here...

These are the chairs we've got in mind, to go with the meals table...

  1. I would say definitely black with the steel legged Eames chair. Personal opinion of course, I'm waiting to buy those chairs for our dining area!

  2. I do like the table in black but I think it makes the table look a lot heavier and it might be too much for your lovely light space. Have you considered leaving the table the colour it is? White chairs work really well with timber tables and you could then have the chairs you've pictured with chrome legs so that they link back to your stainless steel pieces in the kitchen :)

    1. Thanks. I too was thinking it might make the space too heavy with the table being black.

Do you think chrome leg chairs would be too much with our chrome legged barstools?

  3. Black table with dark wood legs on those chairs. Just my opinion though.

  4. As much as I love all things black, it just would seem odd in your lovely living space.
I would keep it that warm wood colour as it matches well with your floorboards and white chairs with chrome legs would tie the look together making the room feel so welcoming. To paint it black where there are no other black pieces would definitely seem out of place.

  5. Paint it black! I did it to my table and have never looked back. I think it will break up the space a bit too and add some interest. xx

  6. I just stumbled on your blog - love the kitchen! We're re-doing ours right now and going for a similar look. Can you tell me about the fan you installed under the cabinets (make and model)? Was it a good choice?

    Thanks.

    1. This is the model we've got: http://www.miele.com.au/au/domestic/products/rangehoods_models_17126.htm

We haven't had any problems so far... but I do wish the lights were LED instead of the generic ones ...

  7. What about two tone - white pedestal and natural top? Black is cool but you will need something to tie in like a rug? I like the natural dowel legs or the chrome legs on the eames chairs.
Also my prize arrived and it is just fab!! Thanks so much...!! xx

  8. Paint it white for sure! I have a few black furnishings in my house which are absolute dust magnets, but still I love them however in your case with you gorgeous to die for kitchen I say go clean modern and white. I think it would be easier for you to mix chairs and even change then in the future if needed (or wanted).

    XOXO,

  9. Thank you all so much for your comments <3

I hope to have MrB sand the table next weekend. He will then prime it so we will be able to see how it looks in white. YAY!
