Having recently received a quote for a custom made tv unit in two pack, I decided that it simply isn't worth the cost. So instead, I am considering this Ikea hack using Akurum/Faktum wall cabinets. This is not something MrB needs right now as he is so busy as it is, so I won't bother him with it until I've sussed it all out... For starters, the thing that concerns me is the fact that in a lot of the photos I've found online, once joined together, the doors don't line up ... Is this something that can be fixed? What do you think? Should we give it a go? Or is the poor quality not worth it? I really don't want something that will fall apart quickly ...
I love this look. I would go for it. I am pretty certain that you adjust the screws in the hinges to make the doors line up. I have the IKEA besta unit for my TV cabinet. I particularly love it when it's wall hung, I wasn't game though. www.lasscreative.com.au
Hi B - I think its all to do with making sure your wall as perfectly straight - we did the same thing with out pantry and we just had to use some wedges where the wall was slightly out.
Yikes! Surely you could adjust the doors. I love this hack too-- the middle pic is from The Brick House, no? I was considering this for a sideboard myself.
I really like this look, and like everyone else has said, I think the door issue is probably just a matter of adjusting the screws in the door hinges. Go for it!
I love it!!! I think with Ikea it's 100% all about installation. I have some of their products and have no problems with them what so ever!. I also think that for the price you can't go wrong. I would love to see it in your house.
